Telehealth is often the best choice when:

  • You need routine medication refills or management for stable conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol.
  • You want to review lab or imaging results, discuss care plans, or ask questions about medications and side effects.
  • You have mild, short-lived symptoms (cough, sore throat, seasonal allergies) without red flags.
  • You need a quick check on skin issues that can be seen on camera (rashes, minor irritation).
  • You’re seeking support for sleep, mood, or stress concerns.
  • You want same-day guidance to decide if an in-home visit is necessary.

Choose an in-home visit when:

  • You have new or worsening symptoms that benefit from a hands-on exam—listening to lungs or heart, checking swelling, or measuring oxygen levels.
  • You need services that must be done in person: wound care, injections, point-of-care testing, or blood draws.
  • Mobility, pain, or fall risk makes travel difficult, and a full safety assessment at home would help.
  • You’re starting a new treatment or device (for example, a blood pressure cuff) and need setup plus teaching.
  • You’ve just returned from the hospital or urgent care and need a thorough follow-up at home.

When to seek urgent, in-person care immediately:

Severe chest pain, sudden shortness of breath at rest, one-sided weakness or facial droop, new confusion with high fever, severe dehydration, or uncontrolled bleeding are emergencies. Do not rely on telehealth—get emergency care.

For in-home visits: keep medication lists and equipment nearby, clear a well-lit space to sit comfortably, and have recent vitals or logs ready. If you use oxygen or mobility aids, keep them in reach.
